EV-D68 in Ontario: what happened in 2014 and what’s next?

Enterovirus D 68 (EV-D68) was first reported in California in 1962, and had been rarely reported until 2014. In the late summer of 2014, following an increase in detections of this virus in the United States (US), cases of EV-D68 among children and some adults were reported in Ontario and Canada. In addition, cases of acute flaccid paralysis were reported from Canada and the US, some of whom were found to have evidence of EV-D68 infection.

Speakers will review the virology and epidemiology of EV-D68, including its potential association with acute flaccid paralysis, discuss the Hamilton experience and share testing results from Public Health Ontario Laboratories.
